Cancer Symposium

Course Description

A case-based approach to the primary care evaluation and management of a patient

at risk for, or diagnosed with lung cancer.

Objectives

Upon completion of this symposium, the participant will be able to:

  1. Properly discuss smoking cessation with their patients and refer when needed.
  2. Recognize patients who are candidates for lung cancer screening.
  3. Efficiently refer patients for assessment of suspected lung cancer.
  4. Order appropriate pre-operative evaluation for possible lung cancer surgery.
  5. Understand the basic approach to definitive chemoradiation therapy for lung cancer.
  6. Recognize symptoms related to advanced lung cancer.
  7. Understand the role of palliative care in lung cancer patients.

Who Should Attend?

Primary care physicians (internal medicine, family medicine), trainees who may ultimately practice primary care, general pulmonologists, advanced practice providers and nurses within any of these specialties.
